THE RISE OF THE FALL

Fashion Week: As designers get excited on who will get the most media blabbery on their latest runway shows, bloggers & fashionistas pick and choose which one will land on the streets. So far just by plainly web surfing I found two trends that I can see us mere masses will adapt and show this autumn. I must say nothing new, nowadays fashion is so much faster than before that the turn around can go yearly or even seasonally instead of decades. Are you ready for my two?? well nothing special but here we go……..

The Calling of Pocahontas & Tiger Lily…..

my collague of photos from my visit to Native Americans Museum in Battery Park today

Native American’s influence to the fashion industry has been around for a while, a couple of years ago the moccasins (fringe) boots was huge. It slowed down in the last 2 seasons but this coming summer I feel that bigger native am domination is on its way. I myself am very fascinated by this culture, I just have this weird attraction to anything native am. (OMG! How weird is this, just put my head up to the TV and my boy has just started watching Apocalypto”) as I said weird attraction!! Anyways back to fashion….I have noticed that the Aztec prints have been shown in some pieces in Winter 10 and it seems like it’s continuing to Summer 11 trends. There are so many interesting pieces that come from this culture and right now I’m loving it ALL.

Feathers

Huge in NY right now, especially in the earring form. I’m still not sold on the hair pieces though as it can be overdone.  Love the feather prints on the fringe loose shirts too! This is one object that I can say I am obsessing about the most this summer. Obsessed enough that I’m seriously thinking of getting a feather tattoo.  This dainty object symbolizes so many positive spiritual meaning in life such as freedom, strength, power and dreams. The Native Am have added feather to most of their accessories to be in touch with their spirituality. Deep huh!!

My fab fashion advice: Wear only 1 feather earring at a time, this gives more of the native am look.

Fringes: Loving this trend mostly on the loose shirts, there is some cute vest out there too & fringe on wedges are showing up. Back in the native days you will find fringes mostly on the side of the pants! Just recently bought a vintage mint fringe shorts! Check it out!!

Arrows: Arrow prints are becoming bigger & bigger, would love to find an arrow pendant though right?!!

This is just the beginning…more native am blogging to come xox

Pleated

Pleats in clothing has been around for a loooooonnnnngggg time, like ancient Egyptian time! I found it fascinating how doubling a fabric and ironing it down became not only one of the first decorations for clothing but a necessity uniforms?? not limited to just school of course but from the Scottish men traditional skirt to sports gear.

Skinny, Slim or Wide….

Jeans is the topic of our blog this morning.

I was chatting with one of my man BFF and he asked me to check out the “new” jeans in the market. I clicked on the link he fb me and I was hoping for a new shape or even a new length that this everyday piece maybe has evolved into. To my disappointment I just saw a slightly baggy slim fitting jean. I asked “so it’s back to baggy from your skinny’s?” he corrected me in saying “slim fits” hmmmm I know there is a difference between the two but I find most guys call them slim fit instead of skinny (even though you know its border line) , is just to take off the femininity feel of this style.

As much as I love skinny jeans on ladies I have yet been sold to like it as much on men. I am just not interested in knowing that their pair of walkies are the same size as mine, it takes the oooomph out of their menuality, but hey that’s only me. I do have an appreciation to all the styled up males out there who are brave enough to walk in these muscle huggers.

My final thoughts are as long as you’re upper style has such a manly mojo (as per below model) you are safe & sound.

Here are some of my fave looks of the skinny & slims, brought to you by lee.com.au ( one of the best denim brand in town in my opinion!)

Bye Bye Black Hair!

I have been nurturing my black hair (tint of highlights) for over 3 years now, my last haircut end up as a disaster and have decided to keep away from any scissors wielding personas. I’ve also been trying to get my hair lightened but all three salonist who I begged, has refused as they didn’t want to strip my hair to get the color I desire. The best they could give me was “highlights”. As boredom finally crept in I’ve decided to take matters in my own hand. I’ve been admiring the fade away look and as a result of plenty refusal I turned to You Tube for some step by step advice.
